80,000 intoxicants seized, two brothers among 4 held

JAMMU, May 29: In a war against drugs, police today busted inter-state drugs smuggling racket with the seizure of 80,000 intoxicant capsules smuggled through courier from Agra and arrest of four persons including two brothers.
This was stated by SP City Shiv Kumar Singh Chouhan while interacting with media persons at Nowabad police station here this evening.
He was flanked by SDPO West Sandeep Choudhary and the police team, which worked out this racket including SHO Nowabad Inspector Karan Chalotra, Incharge police post Canal Road SI Sandeep Charak and Incharge police post Talab Tillo.
He informed that a trap was laid on the activities of drug smugglers and on specific information, police team intercepted a scooter bearing registration number JK02BC-8185 carrying a carton on suspicious grounds.
During checking of the carton, police team recovered 80,000 intoxicant capsules and nabbed two persons identified as Anil Gupta, son of Shiv Dutt of Praladh Pur, Jammu and Subash Chander, son of Bansi Lal of Bohri, Talab Tillo, Mr Chouhan maintained.
During questioning, it came to fore that Anil Gupta, who runs a Courier Company from Khalsa Chowk, Nanak Nagar in connivance with Vishal Gupta and Vishal Gupta and Karun Gupta, sons of Naresh Gupta, residents of Gali Khilona, Pacca Danga used to bring the intoxicants from Agra to Jammu through courier from Agra and different States of India, he said, adding that police team also nabbed Vishal Gupta and Karun Gupta.
He further stated that after bringing the consignment of drugs from different States of India, the accused used to dump these into a room inside Courier Company of Anil for further supply among the youth of Jammu and other adjoining areas and districts also, SP added.
“This is the new modus operandi of the drug smugglers, which was busted by police”, he asserted.
Mr Chohan further disclosed that this operation against drug smugglers was a part of drive against narcotic smugglers initiated by IGP Jammu Danish Rana, DIG Jammu-Kathua Range Shakeel Ahmed Beig and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
He added that such recoveries and arrests symbolize the commitment that Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) holds for the society in general and the youth in particular.
A case in this regard has been registered at Nowabad police station and investigation started to ascertain the involvement of more persons in this drugs smuggling trade.
