8000 youth attend Army recruitment rally in Kupwara

SRINAGAR, Dec 28: A recruitment rally was conducted by the Army in Panzgam area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district in which 8000 youth from the remotest areas of the Valley participated.
The recruitment is being conducted by the Engineer Regiment (Territorial Army) for the Soldiers (General Duty), Soldier (Clerk), Soldier (Store Keeper Technical) and Naib Subedar (Religious Teacher) for eligible candidates from the State of J&K.
An Army spokesman said that as a part of the ongoing efforts to encourage the youth of Kashmir to join the Armed Forces, the first phase of the joint recruitment was conducted from 23rd to 27th December in which 8000 eligible youth from the remote areas enthusiastically participated.
He said in the first stage of the recruitment drive, physical and medical tests were conducted at Panzgam, Kupwara for candidates from Kashmir and Ladakh Region. “Braving harsh subzero temperatures, the recruitment drive lasted for five days, starting each day early morning till late in the evening. By December 27,405 candidates had qualified in the physical tests and the medical tests are currently in progress for the selected individuals,” he said
The spokesman said that a huge local crowd including ladies and children were also present throughout the drive to cheer up the potential soldiers from their area.
“Food and snacks stalls were also put up for the people as a welfare measure to overcome the hardships of the weather. The huge turnout for recruitment reflects the immense patriotic fervor and keen interest of the youth for pursuing a career in the Army. This Recruitment Rally also fulfills a long standing desire of the locals to be provided an opportunity to join the Indian Army,” he said.
He further said the second phase of physical and medical tests of this Recruitment Rally will be carried out at Bardhal Ground, Akhnoor from 04th to 07th January 2019 for the candidates of Jammu Region.
