9 drug peddlers arrested from four Jammu districts

JAMMU, May 5: At least nine alleged drug peddlers were arrested from Udhampur, Reasi, Samba, and Kishtwar districts of the Jammu province with different contraband substances today.
A police official said that two drug peddlers, identified as Jeevan Kumar of Kotli Pain near MI Room Udhampur and Arun Kumar of Balmiki Colony, Chopra Shop, Udhampur were arrested with 4.07 grams of heroin during routing naka checking on the National Highway at Tikri area.
He said the duo was booked in case FIR number 97/2026 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Rehmbal.
Two more persons were arrested with 10 strips (100 capsules) of pregabalin capsules, a psychotropic substance, from Dukhada, Samole, Tikri area, the police official said.
They were identified as Babu and Saif Din, both residents of Muttal area in Udhampur district.
The police official said that Drug Control Department has been informed about the recoveries and the arrests.
Another drug peddler, identified as Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Basantgarh tehsil in Udhampur district was arrested with 960 grams of Ganja during routine checking at Kali Sapri area, he said.
He was booked in case FIR number 15/2026 under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Basantgarh, the police official said.
In another operation in Reasi, one Amir Hussain of Nowshera, District Rajouri was arrested with 4.04 grams of heroin during routine checking.
The accused has been booked in case FIR number 81/2026 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Reasi and further investigation taken up.
In Vijaypur area of the Samba district, police said a notorious drug peddler, identified as Bhag Hussain alias Bhagu of Rakh Barotian, was arrested with approximately 25.83 grams of heroin-like substance during routine naka checking at Tarapur Road near Shamshan Ghat, Rakh Barotian, Vijaypur.
He was booked in case FIR number 77/2026 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS act registered at Police Station Vijaypur.
Similarly, in Kishtwar district, a team of Police Station Kishtwar, led by SHO concerned, Inspector Sam Pal Gill, assisted by other police officers, intercepted a two-wheeler (JK17B-7786) at Malipeth area.
However, the motorcycle rider attempted to flee from the spot.
However, acting swiftly, police chased and overpowered the motorcycle rider and his pillion rider, identified as Junaid Ramzan of Naghbatna Kuntwara at present Malipath Kishtwar and Musharraf Ahmed of Bilalabad, Kishtwar.
On their search, approximately 6.5 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered.
Accordingly, the duo was booked in case FIR number 100/2026 under sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Kishtwar.
Further investigation in all the cases has been set into motion to trace the backward and forward linkages of the arrested drug peddlers.
Meanwhile, one individual was arrested in Udhampur’s Panchairi area after police found and destroyed illegally cultivated poppy on his 4 marlas of the land.
The accused has been identified as Govind Ram of Kounti, tehsil Panchairi, district Udhampur.
Accordingly, the accused was booked in case FIR number 22/2026 under sections 8/18 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Panchairi and further investigation taken up.
