74% PMUY beneficiaries in J&K return for refill

JAMMU, Jan 4: About 74 percent of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries in J&K have comeback for refill of LPG cylinder after the connection was released to them and the average per capita consumption of LPG in the State is 5.32.
A handout of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has termed it as a positive change in the lives of these households which were long dependant on the traditional cooking fuels and methods.
“The shift to LPG as cleaner cooking fuel is coming as awareness is increasing among such household. We are taking number of initiatives in education and awareness creation among the PMUY beneficiaries by various means such as LPG Panchayats etc,” the handout maintained.
In district Ramban Indian Oil Corporation has released 22794 LPG connections under the scheme till December 2018, the handout further said.
It is pertinent to mention here that PMUY had budgetary provision of Rs.12, 800 crore for releasing 5 crore LPG connections to women member of BPL households by March’19 and additional 3 crore LPG by March 2020.
The handout claimed that industry has crossed 5 crore mark during August ’18 which was 8 months ahead of schedule.
