JAMMU, Feb 11: The Indian Air Force (IAF) airlifted 707 stranded passengers as the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed on the 6th consecutive day today.
Official sources said that fresh landslides which had hit the highway at Marog near Ramban on Sunday could not be cleared even today. They said three machines were deployed at the site early morning but continued shooting stones disrupted the highway restoration work.
About 200 meters portion of the highway has been affected with the landslides and by today evening hardly 50 % road stretch could be cleared. Over 200 oil and LPG tankers were stranded between Ramsoo- Ramban and Chanderkote and they will be cleared for Kashmir as the highway is restored, the sources said.

A Defence spokesman said that Indian Air Force pressed two C-17 Globemaster aircrafts into service between Jammu and Srinagar today and airlifted a total 707 stranded passengers. The aircrafts carried 301 passengers in first sortie and 406 in the second sortie today.
Air Commodore, Jammu, S K Mishra personally supervised the entire air-lifting operation at Jammu airbase. All the passengers were also provided eatables/ food packets by the Tiger Division of the Army at Satwari, Jammu.
Meanwhile, reports from Udhampur said that kucha house of one Deeadar Singh, son of Munshi Ram, resident of Ladana was collapsed in Basantgarh area of Udhampur due to heavy snowfall last evening. No, loss of human life has been reported in the incident.
