7 women among 10 more die of Corona in Jammu; MP, ex-MLA, HoD Pediatrics test +ve

8 cops of DIG office, 15 from PS, 11 Microbiology Deptt infected
Many docs including DyMS, 2 ADs, 4 from HC AG office positive

JAMMU, Sept 14: Ten more persons, seven of them women, including a 16-year-old girl died of Coronavirus in Jammu region today while COVID tally stayed above 800 with 837 persons testing positive for the virus, 392 in Jammu district alone. BJP Lok Sabha member from Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, whose contacts during last two days include Union Minister of State for Sports Kiren Rijiju and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Radha Krishna Mathur among others, and former BJP MLA from Akhnoor Rajiv Sharma, his wife and PSOs, 15 police personnel from Majalta Police Station in Udhampur district, 11 staff members in the Microbiology Department of the GMC Jammu, one of them a doctor and rest paramedics, eight police personnel in the office of DIG Doda-Ramban-Kishtwar range and a DySP, who is a KPS officer, have tested positive for COVID-19.
Jammu district’s 392 cases were exactly equal to that of entire Kashmir division. Doda and Rajouri districts, for the first time since pandemic broke out, today crossed three-digit mark and recorded 113 and 132 positive cases respectively.
A number of doctors and their family members also tested positive today. They include HoD Pediatrics in SMGS Hospital, the Assistant Director Rehbar-e-Sehat along with his wife and son, a woman Assistant Director in the Directorate of Health Services and the Deputy Medical Superintendent of Gandhi Nagar hospital, who was involved in COVID management along with others. The Assistant Director Rehbar-e-Sehat was earlier posted as Epidemiologist Jammu. Two doctors from prominent business houses have also tested positive.
A total of 395 persons today tested positive in Jammu district during Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT).
They include four from the office of Advocate General High Court, nine from District Social Welfare Office Ambphalla, 14 from Ward 11 Wazir Lane Talab Tillo, two Bathindi, eight each Lower Roop Nagar and Shakti Nagar, seven Talab Khatikan, one Bahu Fort, two Digiana and one Tawi Market
Rest of the positive cases were reported from rural areas of the district including 22 Akhnoor, 25 Bishnah, two Chowki Choura, 27 Dansal, 38 Kot Bhalwal, 10 Marh, nine RS Pura and three Sohanjana among others.
Of 10 virus fatalities, five were reported from Jammu district, four Doda and one in Kishtwar.
A 16-year-old girl from Malikpura Gandoh in Doda district who had undergone surgery in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and was positive for Coronavirus died today.
Four women including a 70-year-old from Jhiri Kanachak, a 62-year-old from Upper Roop Nagar, 60-year-old from Greater Kailash and 63-year-old from Digiana Camp, all in Jammu district, who were co-morbid and positive for Coronavirus died in the GMC Jammu today. A 62-year-old man from Muthi in Jammu who was also co-morbid and positive for the virus died late last night in the GMC.
A 60-year-old man from Kalotra Marmat died in the GMC Doda of co-morbidity and COVID positive. Two more co-morbid persons coupled with Corona infections hailing from Darha (a male) and Phigsoo Thathri (a female), both in Doda district and aged around 60, died in the GMC Jammu.
A 66-year-old woman from Udrana, Bhaderwah in Doda district who had gone to Kishtwar to attend marriage ceremony in her family at Kishtwar district was shifted to the District Hospital Kishtwar at 3 am today in critical condition and collapsed after few minutes. She had diabetes and chronic renal failure. After death, she tested positive for COVID-19. The woman’s body was packed as per COVID protocol and sent to her native town in Bhaderwah for burial.
Jammu region now has 161 Corona casualties, the highest being 93 in Jammu district followed by 18 Rajouri, 13 Doda, 12 Kathua, eight Samba, six Poonch, four Udhampur , three each in Reasi and Kishtwar and one in Ramban district.
BJP leader and Lok Sabha MP from Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal today tested positive for COVID-19. Significantly, Namgyal had shared dais with Rijiju and Mathur besides other prominent persons in Leh during last two days. Rijiju was on a two-day visit to Leh. Namgyal also made public that he has tested COVID positive through a tweet.
Sources said the contacts of Namgyal are likely to be tested for COVID-19.
Another BJP leader and former MLA from Akhnoor Rajiv Sharma, his wife and PSOs have tested positive for the virus.
Eleven staff members of the Microbiology Department in the GMC Jammu including a doctor and 10 paramedics today reported positive for COVID-19. HoD Microbiology Dr Shashi S Sudhan said around 2500-2800 COVID tests are being conducted daily in the Lab. She said the staff members healthy and have been advised home isolation. The Department is being sanitized regularly.
A total of 392 persons today tested positive for the virus in Jammu district, 363 of whom were locals and just 29 travelers.
Rajouri district recorded single day highest 132 Corona positive cases including 51 from Rajouri town, 36 Darhal, 13 Thanna Mandi, 11 Sunderbani, eight Kandi, six Nowshera, four Kalakote and three travelers.
Doda district reported 113 cases and significantly all of them were locals. They include the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) DAR who is a KPS officer.
Of 18 Corona positive cases reported from Ramban district, eight were staff members from the office of DIG Doda-Ramban-Kishtwar range besides CRPF personnel from Tringla.
Of 54 Corona positive cases in Udhampur district reported today, 15 were police personnel posted at Majalta police station. The positives include two ASIs and rest constables and SPOs. SHO Inspector Vishal Sharma has tested negative for the virus.
Other positives of Udhampur district include two SBI employees, one official each from PHE, Forest, BSNL and Health Department, one IRP jawan, two pregnant women, a student and eight shopkeepers. Rest were contacts of positive cases and travelers.
Twenty nine new Corona cases were today reported from Reasi district.
They include two JKP personnel, one each from CRPF, Shrine Board and Bank besides a pregnant woman and a service provider. Rest were locals and travelers.
Of 26 positives in Kishtwar district, 20 were contacts of positive persons, two Health Department officials and two police personnel.
Kathua district reported 27 new COVID positive cases, 20 of whom were tested during random sampling while four were contacts of positive persons and three had travel history.
Of 38 positive cases in Samba district, 33 were locals and five travelers. The district administration today declared village Jatwal in Ghagwal tehsil and Kartholi in Bari Brahmana tehsil as Containment Zones following COVID positive cases there.
Meanwhile, 231 Corona patients were today treated and discharged from various hospitals of the region including 103 in Jammu district, 33 Doda, 30 Udhampur, 19 Reasi, 14 Poonch, 13 Kishtwar, 12 Kathua and seven in Samba district.
As per the official figures, Jammu region now has 18,225 Corona cases including 9895 active positives as 8170 have been treated and discharged while there have been 161 casualties.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported one more Corona casualty and 74 fresh cases.
The death was reported from Kargil district taking UT’s toll to 41—17 in Leh and 24 in Kargil district.
Of 74 Corona cases, 56 were reported from Leh and 18 Kargil taking COVID tally to 3419 and active cases to 903.
