7 ITBP personnel killed, 33 others injured as bus falls into gorge near Chandanwari

Srinagar, Aug 16: Seven Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel were killed while 33 others were injured, some of them seriously, as a bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and rolled down into a gorge in Chandanwari area of Anantnag district today.
The bus carrying personnel from ITBP, deployed for yatra duties, was returning from Chandanwari in Pahalgam area when the driver lost control over it and the vehicle fell into a gorge. The bus was carrying 33 ITBP personnel and two from Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Massive rescue operation was launched immediately and the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital. Local authorities including SDM, Police and SDRF were sent to the spot and a massive rescue operation was undertaken.

Six personnel died on the spot and one succumbed to injuries at Anantnag hospital while 33 others suffered injuries, mostly serious. They have been shifted to Anantnag hospital and some of them were airlifted to Army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar. Later, all the injured were shifted to 92-Base hospital at BB Cantt.
Those who were killed have been identified as HC Dula Singh, constable Tele Abhiraj Singh, constable Subhash, constable Cook Amit Kumar, Constable Sandeep Kumar, constable Dinesh Kumar and constable D Rajshekhar.
Those injured are ASI Nandan Singh, HC Atar Singh, constable Balwant Kumar, HC Daya Ram, constable Satish, constable Bablu Kumar, constable Mantu Kumar, ASI Khushal Singh, ASI Inder Singh, ASI Harish Kapari, HC Yad Ram, constable Bhupender, HC Kumar Nayak, HC Jitu Prasad, constable Dinesh Chand, constable Cook Nikhil Kumar, inspector Rakesh Kumar, SI Neel Kanth, constable Prem Singh, ASI Ramesh Ram, constable Govind Kumar, HC Khair Nar Babu, HC Hardik Merad, constable Ranjeet Boro, constable Khushpal Singh, ASI Mahesh Daggar, HC Mohammad Qayoom, constable Jeet Singh, constable Kaushik Roi, constable Naresh Singh, constable Dinesh Chand, constable Tsering Dorje and driver of the vehicle Sheer Khan.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed “deep anguish” over the death and injury of ITBP personnel.
“Deeply anguished by the bus accident near Chandanwari in which we have lost our brave ITBP personnel. My condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Sinha said in a tweet. “All possible assistance is being provided to the injured personnel.”
ADGP Vijay Kumar expressed anguish over the tragic accident. “Extremely pained by the loss of lives due to this tragic road accident, my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured personnel,” he said.
