JAMMU, Feb 6: Seven people have been arrested so far and six others detained by Jammu Police in connection with stone pelting during an anti-encroachment drive in Narwal area, here today
Three policemen and a Revenue official were injured while public property was damaged in the stone pelting that took place on Saturday during the drive to demolish MG Hector showroom built on encroached State land at Malik Market in Narwal Bypass area.
As per sources, in its initial investigation and scrutinizing CCTV footages of the area and video clips of stone pelting available on social media and electronic media networks, Jammu Police has identified many stone pelters and their instigators. While some of them have been arrested, others have been detained for questioning their role in stone pelting.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Chandan Kohli told Excelsior that a case under FIR Number 55/2023 U/S 307/332/336/ 323/341/147/148 IPC 3/4 Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act have been registered in connection with stone pelting incident of Narwal at Police Station Bahu Fort.
“Seven persons have been arrested so far in the case and few have been detained and their role is being ascertained. Law shall take care of each and every instigator and individual involved in the incident,” the SSP said, adding, the owner of the showroom, Sajad Ahmed Beigh, is among those arrested.
As per sources, few others who have been arrested in the case are Mohd Mushtaq Alam son of Mohd Shoket and Mohd Irshad son of Mohd Ramzan, both residents of Malik Market (Bhatindi, Jammu).
