65 bovine animals rescued, two smugglers nabbed

RAMBAN, Feb 21: Ramban police foiled three bovine smuggling bids and rescued 65 animals.
“Acting on the specific inputs of transportation of bovine animals, a team of police station Ramban intercepted two trucks bearing registration number JK02AJ-4071 and JK02AP-2481, which were on its way from Jammu towards Srinagar,” a police spokesman said. He said on checking, 48 bovine animals were loaded in the two trucks with utmost cruelty and without any arrangements of food and water.
“The drivers of both the trucks were arrested and the bovines were rescued,” the spokesman said, adding, the accused truck drivers were identified as Mohd Rafiq son of Ghulam Rasool of Khassan Reasi and Zewal Islam son of Amaanullah of Batote Ramban. He said two separate cases vide FIR Numbers 46 and 47/2022 under Section 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act was registered in this connection at police station PS Ramban.
In a similar incident, a police party of police station Chanderkote intercepted one truck bearing registration number JK19-3305, which was on its way towards Srinagar. On checking, eight bovines were found loaded in the vehicle without any valid permission. The bovines were rescued but the driver of the vehicle fled away from the spot by taking advantage of the darkness. In this regard, a case FIR Number 23/2022 under Section 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act was registered in police station Chanderkote.
In 3rd such incident, a team of police station Batote intercepted one truck without any registration number, which was on its way towards Srinagar from Jammu. on checking of the vehicle, seven bovine animals were found loaded in it with utmost cruelty. The bovines were rescued by the police, however, the driver of the vehicle managed to flee from the spot by taking advantage of the darkness. In this regard, a case FIR Number 16/2022 under Section 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act was registered in police station Batote.
The overall arrests and rescue operations were made by police parties of different police stations headed by SHO Ramban Inspector Sandeep Charak, SHO Chanderkote Inspector P D Singh and SHO Batote Inspector Sudher Sadotra under the supervision of Deputy SP Headquarters Ramban Pardeep Singh Sen and overall supervision of SP Ramban, Mohita Sharma.
