62 militants killed this year: DG CRPF

Srinagar, Apr 3: Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar today said that troops have conducted successful ope-rations this year and eliminated 62 militants. He said that those who will resort to arms against the State will be strongly dealt with.
The DG was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here. “We have conducted successful operations against Jaish-e-Mohammad militants and we will carry out such operations against all the militants. I can’t give you the number of militants. So far we have eliminated 62 militants in operations that have been successful. The operation against both foreign and local terrorists will continue”, he said.

“We have devised our strategy against the new threat of IEDs and the terrorist, who was planning to target the CRPF bus, was arrested and threat was neutralized”, he said.
He said that the security forces have been inducted here for the conduct of smooth and peaceful elections.
Bhatnagar said that they reviewed situation ahead of elections here. “We along with Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police reviewed security situation here in Baramulla about the forthcoming Parliament elections and also discussed recent successful operations against militants in Kashmir”, he said.
And a Lashkar-Toiba militant, the main accused in snatching at least four rifles from the official residence of a former Congress MLC, was arrested from a private hospital here today.
The LeT militant Danish Hanief, a resident of Natipora Srinagar, was arrested from a private hospital at Rajbagh here where he was being treated for injuries suffered by him, while escaping from a gunfight with security forces in Pulwama recently.
In last week of December last year, the militants had decamped with four service rifles of policemen guarding the official residence of former Congress MLC Mohammad Muzaffar Parray here.
Earlier this year, Police arrested a suspected person in connection with the weapon snatching case near Bone and Joint Hospital Barzulla.
“On his questioning, he disclosed his identity as Showket Ahmed Khan son of Abdul Hamid Khan a resident of Aarth-Narbal Budgam, affiliated with militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba. His code name is Aumer,” police said.
“It is pertinent to mention here that said a person is involved in case FIR No.73/2018 U/S 392 RPC, 7/25 Arms Act, 3 PEPO Act registered at P/S Rajbagh Srinagar,” police said.
And a former PDP activist and a Panch was injured after being shot at by militants at Shalipora village in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district this evening.
The masked militants barged inside the house of Abdul Majeed Dar son-in-Law of Ghulam Ahmad Malla and fired upon him. He was injured critically and referred to SHMHS hospital Srinagar for treatment.
Majeed is presently a Panch who contested as an independent candidate after he quit PDP as a party activist.
PDP MLC’s nephew from Shopian South Kashmir has joined militancy. The youth has been identified as Kamran Zahoor son of Zahoor Ahmed Manhas, a resident of Shadab area in Karewa of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Kamran was a B.Tech student and is also a nephew of PDP MLC from Shopian, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas.
“We are ascertaining the authenticity of the picture. So far we have no clues whether the youth has really joined militant ranks,” an official said.
