61 bovines rescued, 5 accused held

UDHAMPUR, June 2: The district police have foiled major bovine smuggling bids by arresting 5 accused, seizing 4 vehicles and rescuing 61 bovines.
Giving details, SSP Udhampur Rajiv Pandey said that police patrolling parties of police station Udhampur while patrolling on NHW intercepted three vehicles (2 trucks bearing registration numbers JK02AS-4911, JK02AA-1547 and 1 Tata Mobile bearing registration number (JK14E -2412) from different locations on NHW of district Udhampur for checking.
“During checking, 31 bovine animals were found loaded in very cruel manner in all these vehicles. Whereas the drivers of all the three vehicles were permitted to transport bovine animals, they had loaded the excess quantity of bovine animals and misused the permission of the authorities,” the SSP said, adding, all the bovine animals were rescued and the vehicles seized while 5 persons including drivers and helpers of the vehicles were arrested.
The arrested persons were identified as Liaqat Mohd son of Noor Jamal of Majalta, Mohd Adrish son of Makhan of Majalta, Shakeel Ahmed son of Mohd Shafi of Miran Sahib (Jammu), Mohd Maqbool son of Mohd Bashir of Zero Morh (Talwara) and Abdul Karim son of Shattu of Belicharana (Jammu).
The officer said that in another case, patrolling police party of police station Chenani signalled to stop one truck bearing registration number JK14B-7099 which was on its way from Basht to Chenani, for checking but instead of stopping the vehicle, driver accelerated the vehicle and attempted to flee.
He said the vehicle was chased by the police patrolling party and on search, 30 bovine animals were loaded in the vehicle without any valid permission. All the bovine animals were rescued and vehicle seized, he added.
The SSP said that in all the cases, the concerned police have registered cases and started investigation.
