Over 6000 perform ‘darshan’ at holy cave, yatra crosses 3.25 lakh

JAMMU, July 24: Over 6,972 pilgrims paid obeisance at holy cave of Swami Amarnath on day 27 of darshan today. With this the total number of pilgrims paying obeisance to Icy Lingam in cave shrine since the 44 day long yatra started on June 28 has touched 3,25,640.
According to an official spokesman the yatra proceeded smoothly from both Baltal and Nunwan (Pahalgam) tracks as it was a Sunny day all along the two tracks today.
He said 2,942 pilgrims left from shortest Baltal track for holy cave early this morning. They included 865 pilgrims who left by chopper. Besides 2,139 pilgrims left from Nunwan (Pahalgam) via traditional Chandanwari track to holy cave this morning.
The spokesman said the pilgrims having night haltage at Sheshnag and Panchtarni also left for their onwards sojourn early this morning under tight security.
He said one pilgrim died after performing darshan at holy cave today due to cardiac arrest. He was 39 years old. He has been identified as Rajinder Mahadev, S/o Mahadev Khandel of Maharashtra.
With this total number of pilgrims who died during on going yatrta has mounted to 32. This included four persons including two yatris and two sewadars who were killed in a cylinder blast in a langar at Dumel on June 22, he added.
Meanwhile a fresh batch of 1045 pilgrims left for holy cave early this morning from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in a cavalcade of 28 vehicles. They included 628 male, 219 female, five children, 193 Sadhus. All these yatris had reached to their respective destinations in Kashmir Valley when last reports came in where from they will leave for holy cave early tomorrow morning.
