1200 stranded Kashmiris test -ve

Srinagar, May 13: Seven cops were among 29 persons who tested positive for COVID in Kashmir taking the total positive cases in Kashmir to 874 and Jammu and Kashmir tally to 971.
Dr Mohammad Salim Khan, Nodal Officer, Government Medical College Srinagar told Excelsior that 1163 samples were processed at CD Hospital Microbiology Lab and 21 among them tested positive for COVID-19.
Eight samples received from District Police Lines Anantnag tested positive and they include that of a follower, two SPOs and Head Constables each, a Constable, a Selection-Grade Constable and a woman, who is wife of a cop. The other cases include six from Seer Hamdan including a 40-year-old woman and five men, two of them aged 30 years and three others include the men aged 38, 40 and 45 years.
Besides cases include a woman from Naibasti, 70-year-old from Fresal and 49-year-old of Mohammad Pora Kulgam, patients admitted to Orthopedic ward at GMC Anantnag besides 55-year-old man from Khiitaj.
Two cases include 26-year-old and 27-year-old women, whose samples were received from SDH Kokernag.
At GMC Anantnag a doctor and a staff nurse have been moved to quarantine after two patients tested positive. The patients in the ward have been moved to home quarantine and would be tested after few days.
At SKIMS, out of 1726 samples processed at Viral Diagnostic Lab, 13 tested positive.
The Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan, said that seven of them are from Budgam including 24-year-old man and two women aged 24 and 25 years from Loripora, 23-year-old woman and two men aged 35 and 45 years from Watkul and a 21-year-old man from Zaipora, and a 27 year old man from Dangiwachi in Baramulla.
There are now 971 positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir, 494 are active, 466 have recovered and 11 have died.
Nine more COVID-19 patients recovered today and were discharged from hospitals in Kashmir.
And so far, out of 57111 tests conducted in J&K, 56140 tested as negative and rest positive.
So far 100683 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 25393 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by Government, 149 in Hospital Quarantine, 494 in hospital isolation and 11694 under home surveillance. Besides, 62942 persons have completed their surveillance period.
Anantnag is now topping the list of positive cases. It has 145 cases, Srinagar has 137, Bandipora 134, Baramulla 110, Shopian 105, Kupwara 83, Ganderbal 23, Kulgam 72 and Pulwama 13.
In the meantime, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Shahid Choudhary said that out of 3000 stranded people who arrived in Srinagar, samples of 1200 have been tested so far and all have tested negative.
