JAMMU, Jan 21: Police arrested six bookies for running cricket betting racket from a house in Channi Himmat.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Channi Himmat police station conducted raid in a house falling under its jurisdiction and busted a cricket betting racket by arresting six bookies.
The accused have been identified as Suresh Pachnanda, son of Raj Kumar of Channi Himmat, Suresh Kumar, son of Kewal Krishan Gupta of Purani Mandi, Arun Kumar, son of Gori Shanker of Mast Garh, Rakesh Singh, son of Janak Singh of Chinore, Paramjeet Singh, son of Narinder Singh of Kanak Mandi and Ishant Gupta, son of Vinod Gupta of Talab Khatikan.
During raid, police recovered Rs 45,700 bet money, 10 mobile phones, one laptop and diaries from the spot.
In addition to spot gambling, these accused were also running cricket betting racket along with the persons, whose names and numbers were written in the diaries recovered from the spot.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered against the accused at police station Channi Himmat and investigation started to arrest other persons, who are engaged in this illegal business.
Police team led by SHO Channi Himmat police station Inspector Sajjad Haider made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO East Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Shaazad Salaria and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
