Srinagar, June 30: Police today said to have arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla and Anantnag districts and recovered a huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
In Baramulla, police said, on credible information regarding drug peddling in the Nengerpora area of Kunzer, a Police party from Kunzer under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg raided the specific location.
“During the search, officers recovered 14 Kgs of poppy straw from the residential house of Tariq Ahmad Ganie, son of Gh Qadir Ganie, resident of Ganie Mohalla, Nengerpora, Kunzer. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody,” police said.
Police said that the preliminary investigation reveals that the said accused person was involved in supplying drugs among the youth of the area.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Kunzer and an investigation has been taken up.
Similarly in Anantnag, police said, officers from PS Bijbehara at a checkpoint established at Karkidal intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number PB10CH-1406 with one person on board. He has been identified as Mohd Ashraf Mantoo, son of Mohd Ismail Mantoo, resident of Takya Maqsood Shah, Bijbehara.
“During the search, officers were able to recover 45 Kgs of poppy straw from the said vehicle. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” police said.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No 192/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Bijbehara and investigation has been initiated.
