Srinagar, Oct 21: At least 50 structures were gutted in a massive fire incident at Gurez sub-division of Bandipora district in North Kashmir today, officials said.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Sajad Hussain Ganai told Excelsior over phone that fire erupted at Kilshey village of Gurez today morning from a residential house and engulfed at least 49 other structures. “The fire has gutted 35 residential houses and 15 non-residential structures. The fire has been brought under control and there is no loss of life,” he said.
The DC said that fire tenders from Bandipora district headquarters were rushed to Gurez to douse the fire. Officials said that the dozens of families have been rendered homeless in the fire. “The Gurez houses only wooden structures and that is why the fire consumed so many houses,” the DC said, adding that as an interim relief, the Government has provided 30 kilogram ration to each affected family along with some blankets.
The DC said that they are ascertaining the cause of fire and investigation in this regard has been launched. “As of now, the cause is unknown. A probe has been started in this regard.”
