50 injured as curfew, shutdown continue

SRINAGAR, Aug 6:  Around 50 people including few police men were injured as clashes broke out at several places in Kashmir amid curfew in parts of the Valley and shut down that continued for 29th day today. Meanwhile, 11 police officers including district SPs and SSPs from violence hit areas were transferred today.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Ajaz Ahmad has been transferred and posted as SSP Civil Secretariat and he has been replaced by Shamsher Hussain. Kupwara is one of the worst hit in the ongoing violence.
Sheikh Zulfikar Azad, AIG Buildings PHQ has been posted as SP Bandipora vice Mumtaz Ahmad who has been posted as commandant SDRF vice Fayaz Ahmed Lone.
Fayaz Ahmad Lone has been posted as SSP Traffic city vice Maqsood ul Zaman who is new SSP security Kashmir in place of Javed Ahmad Koul who has been posted as AIG Buildings PHQ.
Mohammad Zahid, SP Railways has been posted as SP Awantipora vice Shridhar Patil who has been posted as SP Railways.
Tahir Salim Khan, Additional SP Rajouri, has been posted as SP Shopian vice Shalinder Kumar Mishra who has been directed to report to PHQ till further orders.
These transfers have been done to give new police officers a chance to improve the situation in parts of Kashmir which has seen worst violence. Earlier, Zubair Ahmad replaced Abdul Jabbar as SSP Anantnag and Ghulam Hassan Bhat replaced Nitish Kumar as DIG South Kashmir.
Earlier in the morning, 42 persons were injured when security forces fired teargas and pellets at Chee village of Anantnag district of South Kashmir to foil a protest rally this morning. Reports said that police and army entered the village at 7 am and disrupted the arrangements being made for the rally. Some of the injured were rushed to Anantnag district hospital while rest were treated at Mattan hospital. One police man was also injured as the villagers resorted to stone pelting at the security forces.
In Chandgam village of Pulwama district, tents that were erected for a protest rally were also dismantled by security forces this morning. Locals said that the security forces arrived in the morning and started ransacking the tent.
Three youths were injured, one of them critically, in two major protests in Srinagar this evening.
One Akeel Ahmad Wani, 16, was hit by pellets during clashes in Natipora area of Srinagar this evening. A large mob of stone pelters targeted police and CRPF in Natipora area of Srinagar and they fired tear smoke shells and pellets resulting in injury to Wani. He was rushed to SMHS hospital where he is being operated upon.
Two more youths suffered bullet injuries in Kawdara area of downtown Srinagar during clashes. However, their condition is said to be stable. Reports said that a group of stone throwing protesters targeted police and CRPF in the area leading to clashes during which security forces fired at the protesters injuring two people.
Thousands of people today attended the last rites of two youths killed by security forces at Khansahab in Budgam district and Wagoora in Baramulla district amid protests even as curfew and shutdown continued on 29th day across Kashmir Valley.
At Khansahab in Budgam, thousands of people attended the last rites of Sameer Ahmad who was killed yesterday by security forces. Soon after the burial, violent protests raged in the area and adjoining localities. However, they were foiled by police and CRPF.
In Wagoora area of Baramulla district, thousands of people attend the last rites of Danish Rasool, who was killed by security forces yesterday after Friday prayers during protests in Sopore. The funeral was followed by violent protests during which protesters set ablaze an abandoned police post at Wagoora.
Authorities imposed curfew in Pattan area of Baramulla district after clashes erupted between protesters and forces that left four injured. Reports said that four persons sustained pellet injuries during clashes and they were hospitalized.
The protests also erupted at Sheeri area of Baramulla district after security forces allegedly thrashed locals and ransacked houses in Shalteng Sheeri and Zoogyar Sheeri localities.
Strict curfew was imposed in Old City, Maisuma and Batamaloo areas of city here to thwart possible protests while rest of the city observed a shutdown. Curfew was also imposed in several other towns and district headquarters of Kashmir to prevent protests.
The Valley observed shutdown, protests and curfew for 29th day today. Schools and colleges remained closed. The attendance in the Government offices was negligible in Srinagar city and other parts of Kashmir valley.
The train services between Banihal and Baramulla remained disrupted for 29th day today and major roads remained shut.
The shops, business establishments and most of the banks remained shut with only some shops selling essentials opened in the early morning and late evening and people were seen busy in buying essentials.
The prepaid Cell phone services and mobile internet continues to remain blocked across Valley and only BSNL broadband internet services are functional.
