Srinagar, Mar 13: The administration has asked over 50 families living in a building known as ‘Yarkand Sarai’ in the Safa Kadal area of Srinagar to vacate within a week, while the families today protested, seeking alternate arrangements.
In this regard, the families have been served a notice asking them to comply or face action in case the same was not done within a stipulated time.
The notice has been issued by the Tehsildar South, Srinagar in which it has been stated that the residents are living in the structure illegally and in case they did not vacate in the set time frame, legal action as warranted under the law would be initiated against them.
The move of the administration is being criticised by the residents who said that they cannot be forced to vacate even as there are no alternatives available for them.
“We have been living here for decades, and this notice has now come all of a sudden; where are we going to go; the families that are over 50 in number will be rendered homeless,” the residents said, adding if the administration is going to go ahead with the same, then there is a need for putting in place the necessary arrangements.
