5 new ITIs being set up under PMRP

JAMMU, Feb 20: Highlighting the role of Technical Education in providing the much needed employment opportunities to the youth of the State, Minister of State for Technical Education, Vikar Rasool today said that the Government has taken the necessary steps to augment the infrastructural capacities of the department so that more and more youth are provided with the technical skills.
The Minister was replying to discussion on grants in the Legislative Assembly today.
Vikar said that the Government has already taken the steps for establishment of 18 new polytechnics which include the identification of the land needed for the purpose besides placing the faculty and the staff for smooth conduct of these polytechnics. He said that upgradation of six existing polytechnics which include Women Polytechnics Srinagar, Jammu KGP Srinagar Polytechnics at Jammu, Leh and Kargil have also been covered under the scheme.
Five Women Hostels at Polytechnic Jammu, Srinagar, Kargil and Women Polytechnics have been completed whereas Polytechnic Leh is under progress. “3 Solar Power Plants of 100KV each have been sanctioned by the Union Ministry of New Renewable Energy for Polytechnics at Jammu, Srinagar and Women Polytechnics have been commissioned and the remaining new ones would also be provided with the same”, the Minister added and maintained that the Government also contemplates to start Polytechnic in every district of the state.
Referring to the skill development of youth of J&K State (SDYJK) programme, the Minister said that the scheme targets to impart skills of various states to 16000 youth in the trades which are not available in that particular institute or State and 4000 have been trained within the state whereas 9527 candidates have been trained outside the state whereas 1249 are currently being trained under the programme.
Vikar said that under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme-II (PMRP) five new ITIs are being established at Bani, Nowshera, Banihal, Gurez and Hajjan. He said 25 trade unions have been introduced with an intake capacity of 540 trainees and new ITIs are being established under PPP mode during 12th Five Year Plan. “The list of 50 un-covered for establishment of ITIs have been submitted to the Centre out of which 19 are likely to be sanctioned in 1st Phase and rest in the 2nd, “the Minister maintained and said that 2575 placements have been made during 2013-2014 from pass outs of Polytechnic/ITI in private sector.
