JAMMU, Sept 12: The studies of hundreds of students are jeopardized as five Govt Higher Secondary Schools are lying headless for the last several months while at least 56 posts of Lecturers remain vacant in all the GHS Schools in Bani Sub Division of district Kathua.
Official sources told the ‘Excelsior’ that students and their parents of this remote Sub Division of Kathua, besides parts of Lohai Malhar, Machhedi and Badnota, falling under Bani Assembly Constituency protested several times against the Administration for its failure to appoint Principals and fill up the vacant posts of the Lecturers, but their plea remained unheard so far. The local public representatives, including BDC/ DDC members and Sarpanches claim that they raised their voice on several occasions but response was yet awaited.
Sources revealed that post of Principal in Govt Higher Secondary School, Bani; GHSS Loang, GHSS Dullangal, GHSS Machhedi and GHS School, Badnota was lying vacant for the last several months. Even GHSS Bhoond, which is about 35 kms short of Bani is also lying headless. The authorities have given look after charge to the senior most Lecturers of these Schools.
Giving further details, the sources disclosed that in Govt Higher Secondary School Malhar nine (9) posts of Lecturers of the subjects- English, Physics, Botany, Zoology, Physical Education, Economics, Education, Urdu and Stenography are lying vacant while only three Lecturers of Maths, Commerce and Chemistry are placed in this school.
Similarly, in Govt Higher Secondary School, Machhedi, only three Lecturers of Political Science, Chemistry and Physics are available while all the other 12 posts including that of English, Maths, Economics, Education, Computer Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Urdu, Sanskrit, Biotechnology, Geography and Physical Education subjects are lying vacant.
In Govt Higher Secondary School Bhatodi, only two posts of Lecturers of Chemistry and Environment Sciences are filled up while all the nine other posts are lying vacant. These nine subjects include-English, Maths, Hindi, Sociology, Education, Political Science, Botany, Physics and Zoology.
Six posts of Lecturers in GHSS Badnota lying vacant are in subjects- Economics, English, Hindi, Maths, Physical Education and Agriculture. In Government Higher Secondary School, Loang also six posts of English, Persian, Zoology, Geology, History and Physical Education subject Lecturers are lying vacant.
In GHSS Roulka, of Bani Sub Division, six posts of Lecturers are lying vacant while five are filled up. These vacant posts of Lecturers pertains to the subjects-Maths, History, Political Science, Environment Sciences, Urdu and English. Six posts lying vacant in GHSS Tappar are that of Maths, Education, History, Urdu, Hindi, Physical Science and Environment Sciences Lecturers. The Lecturers of five posts are available in the school. They include- English, Physics, Zoology, Chemistry and Botany. Two posts of Maths and History subject Lecturers are lying vacant in Govt Higher Secondary School Dullangal.
The public representatives of these areas have written to the Principal Secretary, Education Alok Kumar and Director School Education Jammu, Ashok Kumar to fill up these vacant posts of Principals and Lecturers lying vacant in Bani Sub Division. They have warned to launch agitation if these posts are not filled up shortly as the studies of the students are suffering badly.
Principal Secretary to Government, Higher and School Education Department, Alok Kumar when contacted said that he was aware of the issue. “We are in the process of providing staff in these Higher Secondary Schools. The exercise is going on and shortly, the department will fill up vacant posts of Lecturers not only in Bani Sub Division but other areas of the region as well,” he added.
“This can’t be done over night. Such exercise takes some time. We are also appointing Principals in the schools where such posts are lying vacant,” the Principal Secretary maintained.
