Srinagar, Mar 13: Police today arrested five drug smugglers with three Kilogram charas and brown sugar in Srinagar and Bandipora districts.
A police spokesman said besides charas, 40,500 rupees were also recovered from their car.
He said the arrested smugglers have been identifed as Aman-ul-lah Wagay son of Habib-ul-lah Wagay, Showket Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Sadiq, residents of Hakbhara, Sumbal, Zahoor Ahmed Sheikh son of Ghulam Hassan resident of Nowhatta, Srinagar and Manzoor Ahmad son of Habib-ul-lah Beigh resident of Hawal, Srinagar.
The spokesman said the smugglers were arrested when they were finalizing a drug deal but a police party intercepted their Maruti car, 5502/JK01, which was coming from Hakbara towards Hajin.
Police has registered a case FIR number 9/2015 under section 8/20 NDPS Act and investigation was taken up.
He said that during investigations, it came to surface that the arrested person were notorious charas producers and smugglers who were finalizing a drug deal and the contraband was to be smuggled to Srinagar city for sale among the youth indulging in drug abuse.
Meanwhile, another drug peddler Shabir Ahmad Bangroo son of Ghulam Qadir Bangroo resident of Banger Mohalla, Waniyar, Safa Kadal was apprehended in Batamaloo bus stand today.
The spokesman said that Charas and brown sugar were recovered from him, adding FIR 27/2015 under section 8/20 NDPS stands registered against him.
