JAMMU, Mar 13: A 5-day certificate training program on “De-addiction Counselling and Relapse Prevention” for Counsellors of De-addiction Centres concluded today.
The program was organized by JKSPYM State Level Coordinating Agency of Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment under National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), in collaboration with National Institute of Social Defence (NISD).
The program was inaugurated on March 9 by Dr Salim-ur-Rehman, Director Health Services Jammu along with Dr Narinder Datyal Medical Superintendent Gandhi Nagar, Dr Arun Sharma, Superintendent, Maternity Hospital Gandhi Nagar (Jammu).
The resource persons for training program were Dr Manu Arora (HoD Psychiatric Department, GMC Jammu), Dr Shabnam Rivees (Associate Professor Clinical Psychology, Department of Psychiatric), Dr Arti Bakshi (HoD Department of Psychology, Jammu University), Dr Abhishek Chauhan (Neuro-Psychiatrist, GMC), Dr Mohd Muzafer Khan (Consultant Clinical Psychologist) and Dr Vinay Kumar (Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, Central University of Jammu).
Around 25 counsellors participated in the program. First day of training started with the session “Introduction of Psychoactive Substances” by resource person Dr Shabnam Rivees followed by sessions on “The Science of Addiction” and “The Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment” taken by Dr Manu Arora, and a session on “The Helping Relationship” conducted by Dr Arti Bakshi.
On second day, Dr Bakshi conducted sessions on “Basic Counselling Skills”, “Stages and Strategies of Change”, “Group Counselling Skills” and “Psycho Education Groups for Clients and Families” while 3rd day began with the sessions “Specific Mental Disorders and Common Issues”, “Pharmacotherapy in Drug Addiction”, “Screening and Assessment” and “Addiction Severity Index” by Dr Mohd Muzafer Khan.
On fourth day, sessions were conducted on “ASI Administering and Coding”, ‘Treatment Planning MATRS”, “Basic Concepts of CBT and Relapse Prevention” and “Methods for using CBT Strategies” by Dr Mohd Muzafer Khan and on concluding day, sessions on “Social Stigma” and “Substance Abuse Consequences” were taken by Dr Vinay Kumar. Certificates were also distributed among the participants on last day of the program.
