5 arrested with poppy straw, cannabis, cash

JAMMU, Nov 23: Police arrested five drug peddlers and recovered poppy straw, cannabis and cash from their possession.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Narwal Police Post led by SI Vikas Jasrotia under the supervision of SHO Bahu Fort Inspector Deepak Pathania laid a naka and intercepted a truck.
During checking, police team recovered 51 kilograms of poppy straw and Rs 30,000 cash from the vehicle and arrested one person, who was identified as Gurmeet Singh, son of Joginder Singh of Karan Bagh, Gadigarh District Jammu.
A case under FIR Number 315/2020 under Section 8/15/25 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bahu Fort and investigation started.
Meanwhile, a team from Jhajjar Kotli Police Station led by SHO Inspector Rajesh Khajuria during checking at Suketar check post intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB10BF-3089.
During frisking, police team recovered 9.500 kilograms poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver along with his associate.
The arrested persons were identified as Tara Singh, son of Joginder Singh and Mewa Singh, son of Pooran Singh, both residents of Ludhiana, Punjab.
A case under relevant sections has been registered at Jhajjar Kotli Police Station and investigation initiated.
In another incident, a team from Akhnoor Police Station led by SHO Inspector Ravi Singh Parihar during checking at old bridge Akhnoor intercepted a scooty bearing registration number JK02BJ-0636.
During checking, police team recovered 80 grams cannabis from the possession of two persons riding on the scooty and arrested them.
The accused were identified as Ankush Verma alias Anku, son of late Mohan Lal of Pamposh Colony Janipur and Dilawar Singh alias Kalu, son of Rashpal Singh of Purkhoo.
A case under FIR Number 219/2020 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Akhnoor Police Station and further investigation of the case is going on.
