48th Engineers’ day celebrated with fervour

JAMMU, Sept 15: 48th Engineers Day was celebrated with fervour and gaiety. This day is celebrated across the country to commemorate the birth anniversary of the greatest engineer Sir M Visvesvaraya, Bharat Ratna.
The 48th Engineers’ day was celebrated by The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre, in which large numbers of engineers from various departments and organizations took part. On the occasion, Sukhnandan Kumar, Minister, Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control was the chief guest and Sunil Kumar Sharma, Minister of State, PWD (R&B) and Revenue was the guest of honour. Er Hem Chander Jerath, Chairman of Jammu Centre presented the welcome address in which he demanded running grades for the Engineers. Rich Tributes were paid to Sir M Visvesvaraya by Er Samir Sharma, Former Honorary Secretary, IEI, Jammu Local Centre in which he highlighted his qualities. On the occasion, Ministers also launched the website www.ieijammu.org. of The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre. First issue of 13th Volume of quarterly News Letter of Jammu Local Centre was also released by the Ministers. The inaugural session was followed by a technical session which was chaired by Er BB Sharma, Former Chief Engineer, Hydraulic and Past Chairman, IEI, Jammu Local Centre in which 5 papers were presented in the shape of Power Point Presentations on the theme “Engineering Challenges for Knowledge Era”.
Engineer’s Day was celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm at Government Polytechnic Jammu. The event was inaugurated by lightening of lamp and key note address by Er Ritu Jamwal, Principal of the Institute. A debate competition was organized on the topic “Role of Engineers versus Non-Engineers” during which the students showcased their talent and creative skills. The first prize was bagged by Ronak Pal Singh, second prize by Tanvi Anthal and third prize was won by Kanishak. Er Ritu Jamwal distributed prizes among the winners and participants.
48th Engineer’s Day was celebrated by students of Yogananda College of Engineering and Technology (YCET). An inter club debate competition on the topic “Engineer’s Contribution to the nation building” was conducted on the occasion. Dr Seema Narain, Director, YCET, was the chief guest and Er BR Verma, Dean Academics and RS Dalpatias presided over the function. Mahreen and Tarun Sharma representing Steel Club won the first and second positions respectively. Cultural performances were also presented by the students.
