1 militant killed, search operation continues in Kashmir

SRINAGAR : A militant was killed in an encounter in south Kashmir district of Anantnag, while search operation was going on in Baramulla, official sources said.
Security forces today launched search operations in north Kashmir district of Baramula and Anantnag in south, the sources said here.
They said on a tip-off about the presence of militants, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation at a village in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
However, when the security forces were sealing the village and moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there opened fire. Security forces also retaliated and in the encounter so far, one militant was killed. The slain militant was identified as Basit Rasool, a local.
Search operation was going on, when the reports last came in, they said. They said another operation was launched at Bomai in apple township of Sopore in Baramulla district this morning, following a tip-off about the presence of militants.
