JAMMU, May 9: Continuing its drive, Udhampur Police today foiled four major attempts of bovine smuggling and rescued 42 animals besides arresting 10 smugglers.
The smuggling bids were foiled under the jurisdiction of Police Station Chennai, Kud and Basantgarh.
Reports said that based on reliable information, a Police party from Chennai laid a surprise naka near Samroli and intercepted a Mahindra vehicle bearing registration number JK14-7775, which was on way towards Srinagar. During the thorough search, the vehicle was found loaded with four bovine animals, which were rescued.
The smugglers, namely Mohd Haroon of Jaganoo Udhampur was arrested while
the Mahindra vehicle was also seized.
Similarly, a Police party from Kud laid a naka at NHW near Kud town and intercepted one truck bearing registration number JK14B-0366. The truck was found loaded with 12 bovine animals, which were rescued while three smugglers namely Bashir Ahmed of Tharmat Bali Udhampur, Mohd Iqbal of Thanda Padder Udhampur and Mohd Abass of Thanda Padder were arrested.
In another incident at Kud, Police rescued 19 bovine animals which were packed in very cruel manner in a truck bearing registration number 6567-JK02R and initiated legal action U/S 3/PCA, 197/Motor Vehicle Act against five accused smugglers namely Adreesh Ahmed, Qasim , Mehmood, Rafeeq and Shabir of Udhampur.
On a tip off, Police party from Basantgarh laid a special naka near Gandh Top and rescued seven bovine animals which were being smuggled to Kashmir. Ali John of Mehtabgarh Kathua, who was illegally taking these animals on foot from Billawar towards Kashmir Valley was also arrested.
