40 houses damaged in landslide

JAMMU, Aug 20: Entire Ucha Pind hamlet in Ramkot tehsil of Kathua district suffered huge damage tonight after a massive landslide hit the village but the inhabitants managed to survive.
Official reports said the landslides struck Ucha Pind at about 10 pm when the people were about to sleep. The people fled from their houses and managed to survive.
Ucha Pind Sarpanch Puran Chand told the Excelsior on telephone that 40 houses and school buildings were damaged in the landslide.
“I think all houses and school buildings have been extensively damaged. However, the people managed to come out timely,” he said.
Police rushed its jongas to the village, which shifted the families to Government Middle School, Baddu.
Local administration was on way to the village.
