POONCH, Apr 16: Property worth crores was destroyed after four shops including a three storey building were gutted in a major fire incident in the main market near City Chowk here last mid night.
The incident took place at around 2 am when the people were fast asleep. The night watchman noticed smoke coming out of one of the shops. Then it was engulfed in large flames. He raised alarm and the people of the area rushed towards the site. After some time, the police party also reached.
Two fire tenders were pressed into service. They started extinguishing fire. It took about three hours to them to control the fire. Four shops including three storey building of one Chander Mohan were completely damaged. Three other shops belonged to Vipin Kumar Kandhari, Madhumeet Singh and Gurdev Singh. Short circuit was said to be the reason behind the incident. The loss of property was said to be in crores. Vipin also had his godown at the first floor of the shop. The police has taken cognizance of the matter. It ruled out foul play behind the incident.
