People protest, block road as girl go missing

Excelsior Correspondent
RAJOURI, Apr 16: The villagers from Saj area today held protest and blocked Rajour- Thannamandi road after a 3-year-old girl went missing last evening.
The people alleged that minor girl, Salima Kouser, daughter of Muktiar Hussain, resident of Kemri Gali (Saj) had gone with her mother to nearby field. The mother started collecting vegetables while she made the small girl sit on a big stone at some distance. The leopard pounced upon the girl and escaped towards the nearby forest. After long search by family members, the girl could not be traced. The villagers alleged that a leopard has created terror in the area for the last several weeks and Wild Life department has not taken cognizance of it.
The villagers blocked road and stalled the movement of traffic. Later, Tehsildar Thannamandi, Dr Abdul Kabir reached the spot. SHO along with police party and Forest and Wild Life staff with the support of villagers managed to trace the girl this evening about 2 kms away from the spot.
The body of the girl was then sent for postmortem to Rajouri hospital. Tehsildar and a Police officer said that with the physical examination of the body, it seems that she had not been lifted or dragged by leopard or any other animal as no such violence marks were visible. It appears some foul play. Inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC have been initiated by police.
