Asserting that Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed sea change, he said the change has come because of the people as lot of development is taking place and poor have got their rights.
To a question whether there was heavy deployment of security forces in Kashmir, Shah said not even a single extra soldier has been deployed when the BJP took over from Manmohan Singh Government.
“We conducted Panchayat elections and restored democratic process in Jammu and Kashmir,” the Home Minister said.
He said 2.80 crore tourists have visited Jammu and Kashmir in two years. Muharram procession was taken out. Night theatres have started functioning. Thirty theatres are being constructed. Investments have come and Article 370 has ended. These are the big changes, he added.
Shah mentioned that terror incidents have come down from 7200 during 2004-2014 tenure of Manmohan Singh to 2000 during 10 years of Narendra Modi Government while the killings have declined from 2829 to 415. Civilian killings were 300 as compared to 1800 while 574 security personnel were martyred as against 2354.
There was mot even a single stone pelting incident as against 2654, he added.
Meanwhile, at an election rally today, the Home Minister delineated the achievements of the Modi Government, particularly in bolstering national security and combating terrorism.
Highlighting the contrast between the present administration and its predecessors, Shah accused the erstwhile UPA Government of faltering in the face of terrorist threats, contrasting it with Modi’s resolute response to Pakistan-backed terrorism.
He further alleged that vote-bank politics had compromised national security, citing instances where Congress alliances led to incidents like the bomb blast in Karnataka.
In the interview, Shah attacked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal saying that the AAP chief said he was ‘Kattar Imandaar’, but didn’t have the moral energy to resign even after getting arrested.
Hitting out at Kejriwal, Shah said that it has been the first time in history that a person has not resigned even after getting arrested.
“It has never happened in history that if a person is arrested in any case, he or she has not resigned on moral grounds. There is no provision in the Constitution because the makers of the Constitution couldn’t imagine that someone would get arrested and no resign. So there was no such provision. It is a very natural thing,” Shah said.
