RAJOURI, June 8: Thanna Mandi police today arrested four accused allegedly involved in violence and pelting stones on Deputy Commissioner Rajouri F C Bhagat, Addl DC Matloob Khan, Tehsildar Farooq Khan and SDPO Thanna Mandi Mujib-ur- Rehman two days back during public meeting at Saaj village while two Government employees also involved in the offence were still at large.
A police officer told the Excelsior that out of the total 23 persons including some women, booked by Thanna Mandi police in connection with stone pelting on the public servants have been arrested. They have been identified as Mohd Rafiq, son of Mohd Shafi, Mohd Sadiq, son of Mohd Aslam, Mohd Shabir, son of Baaz Ali and Tariq Waheed, son of Mohd Sadiq, all residents of Saaj in tehsil Thanna Mandi. They were arrested by the police raiding parties from different locations.
He disclosed that the police parties were conducting series of raids at different places and help of lady police is also being sought for their arrest. The officer said that two Government employees namely Mohd Bastana, a Pharmacist in Health Department from Manjakote and Forest Guard, Khadim Hussain from Saaj area have also been booked under the same offence and they have also gone underground. They are also absent from their duty for the last couple of days, the officer added.
It may be recalled that DC Rajouri and other officers had gone to Saaj for settling an old dispute over construction of road on the court directions. They had called a public meeting and the parties objecting to the construction had also been summoned. The issue was settled after long negotiation. When the officers started moving back in their vehicles some people including ladies started pelting stones on them in which an ASI and a driver of SDPO, Thanna Mandi were injured. The officers however, had narrow escape.
