Guide arrested in ex-filtration case

Srinagar, July 8: Four militants were killed in two separate nocturnal gunfights in South Kashmir today and a major attack on the National Highway which two among them were planning was foiled.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that in an encounter at Puchal area of Pulwama district, two militants were killed in an overnight joint operation of police and security forces.
“Two more militants were killed in another gunfight at Zodar area of Kulgam,” the IGP said, adding that these militants belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit.
He said that two militants killed in Kulgam were planning a big strike on the National Highway in South Kashmir. “The encounter took place in an area close to the Highway and they were planning an attack on the National Highway”, he added.
He said police and security forces received specific leads about presence of militants in Pulwama and Kulgam late night yesterday after joint teams of police and security forces launched operations in both districts.
A police spokesman said that last night, based on specific input about presence of militants in Puchal area of Pulwama, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 183Bn CRPF and 55 RR in the area.
“During the search operation as the presence of terrorists got ascertained they were given repeated opportunities to surrender. However, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter”, he said.
“In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Kifayat Ramzan Sofi son of Mohammad Ramzan Sofi resident of Padgampora Awantipora affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT and Inayat Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Ahad Dar resident of Samboora Pulwama affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Al-Badr”, he said.
He said that one more operation was launched on credible inputs regarding the movement of militants on NHW, a joint naka by police and 1RR was established by them at Zadora Qazigund.
“During naka checking, when a suspicious vehicle was signalled to stop by the naka party, two terrorists who were boarding the vehicle came out from the vehicle and started firing indiscriminately upon the joint naka party. However, the alert party retaliated the fire effectively, leading to the elimination of two terrorists on the spot”, he said.
They have been identified as Nasir Ahmad Pandith son of Mohammad Ayoub resident of Redwani Kulgam and Shahbaz Ahmad Shah son of Ghulam Hassan Shah resident of Katrusu Kulgam, both affiliated with LeT.
He said that as per police records, all of them were part of groups involved in various militancy related cases and arms, ammunition and other incriminating materials were recovered from both the encounter sites.
In the meantime, police today arrested a guide in connection with the foiled ex-filtration bid along Uri in Baramulla district on July 2.
“During questioning of the guide Parvaiz Ahmad Hajam of Gohallan Uri, he confessed that other guide Mohammad Majloon Sheikh son of Aakli Sheikh of Dudran Boniyar was also involved in the act of exfiltration of the three youth to (PaK) and on his confession the guide was arrested and incriminating material was also recovered from his possession,” police said.
On July 2, police and Army detained three youth and one guide, Parvaiz  Ahmad Hajam, in the Uri who were trying to ex-filtrate.
In Budgam police arrested a militant associate linked with LeT and recovered incriminating materials including explosive substance from his possession.
A police spokesman said that Budgam police at a naka point established at Archandarhama Magam near railway crossing noticed a suspicious person who was carrying a bag. “When the naka party tried to stop him for checking, the said person tried to flee. However, the alert naka party tactfully apprehended him. He has been identified as Danish Ahmed Dar son of Mohammad Ashraf Dar resident of Check-Sari Singhpora Pattan”, the spokesman added.
“During search, 1.2 kilograms of explosive substance and two electronic detonators were recovered from his bag. Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested person was actually a terrorist associate who was providing logistics and other material support to the terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT in various areas of Budgam. Besides it was also revealed that said terrorist associate was in touch with Pak terror commanders and LeT terrorists operating in Valley”, the spokesman added.
A case (FIR No. 154/2021 under relevant sections of law) has been registered in Police Station Magam and investigation into the matter has been initiated.
Police in Sopore today said that they averted a major tragedy by busting a hideout and arresting one militant associate in Doabgah area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Police said that a joint team of 22 RR, 179 CRPF, SOG and police launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on credible inputs.
The joint team busted a hideout and arrested one militant associate of Hizbul Mujahideen. “During the search, a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered”, police said.
