SRINAGAR, Aug 17: Four persons were killed and six others were injured in two road mishaps in North Kashmir today.
Three persons were killed while six others were injured as a Tata Sumo turned turtle at Sangri Top area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
The Sumo bearing registration number JK05E 1920 was on its way to Sopore from Bandipora when it met the accident at Sangri Top in Watlab area of Sopore in the district. A police spokesman said that Sumo collided with a scooty.
The officials said that the driver of the Sumo lost control over the vehicle and it turned turtle and rolled down resulting in injuries to 9 people.
They said the injured persons were immediately rushed to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Sopore for treatment. However, one of the injured persons identified as Abdul Hameed Bhat was declared brought dead by the doctors.
The other injured persons were identified as Abdul Rashid Mata, Owais Ahmad Bhat, Abdul Rashid Kaloo, Meena, Afshana, Abdul Rashid Sheikh, Ghulam Hassan and Fayaz Ahmad. The doctors at SDH Sopore later referred five injured persons to Srinagar for specialized treatment. However, Fayaz Ahmad and Ghulam Hassan later succumbed to their injuries here.
The Block Medical Officer (BMO) SDH Sopore, Dr Masood, told Excelsior that they received 9 people at the hospital. “One was brought dead while we have referred five others to Srinagar,” he said. “Two of the five persons referred to Srinagar succumbed,” he added.
The ARTO Baramulla, Abdul Ahad Yatoo, blamed the Sumo driver for the accident, accusing him of rash driving. “It was only due to his fault that the accident took place,” he said.
Meanwhile, in another accident, a vehicle laden with wooden logs turned turtle at Gulmarg resulting in death of the driver.
