GHAZIABAD (UP), Feb 15 : Four Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots have been selected for India’s first human Space mission “Gaganyaan” and their training programme began this week at the reputed Gagarin Research Cosmic Training Centre in Moscow, Russia.
This was disclosed here today by Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh who is also Incharge Department of Space, while addressing a gathering of students and educationists, after inaugurating the three-day “Rise in Uttar Pradesh 2020” event in the campus of HRIT Group of Institutions.
While lauding the “Gaganyan” and other space exhibits created by young students, Dr Jitendra Singh said, this itself is an indication of India’s march to glory, which has received special impetus particularly in the last four to five years under the focused prioritization and patronage from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, it is seldom realized that India began its space journey several years after nations like Russia and United States of America and when they were launching space missions we were still singing nursery rhymes in the glory of Moon, but today not only has India emerged as frontline nation in Space technology but the young Indian scientists are playing a pivotal role in some of the premier international Space institutions like NASA in United States of America.
Dr Jitendra Singh further informed that “Gaganyan” will make India the fourth nation in the world to send a human being in space, and this will be a totally indigenous mission. He said, the 12 months’ training programme includes bio-medical and comprehensive training of the Indian astronauts which will be combined with their physical training.
Meanwhile, Dr Jitendra Singh also disclosed after Chandrayaan-2, the Chandrayaan-3 space mission to Moon may be scheduled sometimes before the end of this year.
Dr Jitendra Singh congratulated the organizers for holding the event which promises not only to sharpen the skills of youngsters in their formative years, but would also enable them to discover their inherent aptitudes so that they may select themselves for the career at which they may perform the best.
Earlier, Senior Rajya Sabha Member, Dr Anil Aggarwal and Chairman HRIT Group of Institutions Atul Jain along with other faculty members and members of Management Committee welcomed Dr Jitendra Singh on his arrival. The Minister was also taken around various stalls and exhibits put up, among others, also by different departments and Ministries in the Government of India.
