KULGAM, June 20: At least four National Conference workers were injured in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district when the supporters of two NC leaders, eyeing on mandate from Kulgam Assembly constituency, clashed with each other at a rally today. Reports said that workers of two factions of the same party exchanged blows, hurled chairs and other items on the workers of opposite faction. National Conference had called a convention at Town Hall Kulgam in which Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo and Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani were scheduled to address them. But soon after their arrival scores of workers from two factions of the party one led by Safdar Khan and the other by Imran Nabi Dar had a scuffle and exchanged blows and abuses. First, police watched as spectators, but when the situation went out of control they resorted to lathicharge and dispersed them. The clashes had started after supporters of one of the factions claimed that their leader has been nominated as candidate for the coming 2014 Assembly Elections. The supporters of the other faction objected and soon a scuffle started between the two groups. Some of the injured have been identified as Abdul Rashid Raina, Tariq Ahmed and Noor Mohammad Khan.
