4 Hizb militants killed in two encounters

Srinagar, May 18: Four militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in two separate gun battles in South and North Kashmir today.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Awantipora Tahir Saleem said that the three militants who were killed in Panzgam today were affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen. He identified them as Showkat Ahmad Dar of Panzgam Pulwama, Irfan Ahmad of Sopore and Muzzafar Ahmad of Tahab Pulwama.

He said that Showkat Dar was directly involved in the killing of the Army soldier Rifleman Aurangzeb.
Earlier, in the morning security forces including Army’s 55 RR and SOG cordoned off Panzgam village in Awantipora area of Pulwama district following inputs about the presence of militants in the village.
During searches of the village, militants fired upon troops leading to a gun battle in which three militants were killed. Two AK-47 rifles and an SLR was recovered from the encounter site. Three houses were damaged in the encounter, two of them partially.
A police spokesman said that all the three militants, according to the police records, were affiliated with proscribed Hizbul Mujahideen and were wanted by law for their complicity in a series of militancy incidents including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities.
“As per police records, Showkat Dar had a long history of terror crime records. He was involved in planning & executing series of terror attacks in the area and many other civilian atrocities. He was part of a group involved in killing of Army jawan Aurangzeb last year in 2018. He was also involved in killing of a policeman Aqib Ahmad Wagay last year. Several terror crime cases were registered against him”, the spokesman said.
“Irfan War was part of terror groups responsible for conspiring and executing attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities in the area. Accordingly terror crime cases were registered against him. Similarly, Muzafar Sheikh as per police records was also involved in several terror attacks on security establishments in the area. Several criminal cases were registered against him for terrorist activities”, police said.
Security forces also killed another militant of Hizbul Mujahideen in Sopore area of North Kashmir today.
Security forces including Army’s 22 RR and SOG cordoned off Hathlangoo village in Sopore area of North Kashmir following specific information about the presence of militants inside a residential house.
One militant was killed during an encounter in the village. He has been identified as Waseem Ahmad Naik son of Abdul Gani Naik of Udipora, Barsoo Awantipora. One AK-47 rifle was recovered from his possession.
Waseem was missing since March this year. The family had accordingly filed a missing report in police station Awantipora.
