JAMMU, Jan 20: The 3rd Annual Meeting of Metabolic Syndrome-Pre-Diabetes-PCOS Society was held at Hyderabad.
Clinicians from diverse fields converged in MOOD 2020 in Hyderabad to deliberate on the growing Epidemic of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and other related disorders such as diabetes, obesity, fatty liver etc particularly in Indian context.
The Theme of the conference was “Metabolic Syndrome Obesity Ovarian Dysfunction and Diabetes-MOOD 2020”.
Around 140 national and international faculty and 400 delegates attended the conference. Prominent international faculty who attended the meeting included President of South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies (SAFES) Prof Noel Somasundaram, President of Diabetes and Endocrinology Association of Nepal (DEAN), Dr Dina Shrestha and Dr Guru P Dhakal from Bhutan.
“MP PCOS Society is a young society comprising of focused group of clinicians and scientists. The mandate of the society is to promote research and academics in the area of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) besides public awareness about prevention and screening of NCDs particularly PCOS. MOOD 2020 is one such event,” said Dr Mohammad Ashraf Ganie, President of M P PCOS Society in his inaugural address.
Dr Ashraf unveiled the future plans and activities of the society. It may noted here that Dr Ashraf Ganie who is currently working as Professor of Endocrinology at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Srinagar has been leading the ICMR supported Multicentric National task force on PCOS.
Prof Ganie has been working in the area of lifestyle disorders and has published numerous research papers. DrGanie was appointed as Chief Coordinator of multi-centric task force study by ICMR proposed on 11 centers in the country.
Dr Shashikala Reddy, Principal and Dean Osmania Medical College, the chief guest of the occasion lauded the efforts of the Society and organizing committee for organizing such appropriate scientific event. Prof Noel Somasundaram was awarded the prestigious Dr AC Ammini oration on the event.
The program was planned in such a way that the thrust areas in Obesity, PCOS and Diabetes are discussed while reviewing local data, said Dr Sanjay Kalra Chairman Scientific Committee and President Endocrine Society of India. He said besides MOOD 2020 is the best platform for all the young delegates to showcase their work.
The MOOD 2020 was organized with utmost focus on recent advancements in Diagnosing and Management of obesity, ovarian dysfunction and diabetes, said Prof Rakesh Kumar Sahay the Organizing Secretary of the event. He also informed that 4th meeting MP PCOS will be held in UP with Prof Sarita Bajaj as Organizing Secretary.
