37th GOC begins at Deptt of Statistics in JU

JAMMU, Dec 18: Four week long 37th GOC, conducted by Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), University of Jammu, commenced today in the Department of Statistics, University of Jammu.
The course was presided over by Prof R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, JU and Prof I M Kapahi, member UGC was the chief guest on this occasion. This is the fourth orientation course being organized by the HRDC in the month of December itself. The orientation course has attracted the participants from all the corners of country. In the ongoing course, there are 37 participants attending this course from different parts of the nation as well as from Jammu and Kashmir itself. The purpose of Orientation Course is to make aware the incumbent teachers with latest teaching methods and innovations.
While addressing the participants Prof R D Sharma stressed upon the need and necessity of the research in the making of a good teacher. He also emphasized on to earn the doctorate degree and publish their findings in the form of research papers in journals of repute. The Vice-Chancellor advised the participants to give their best in making nation academically vibrant and strong.
The chief guest Prof I M Kapahi shared his views out of his vast experience serving the community as teacher as well as administrator. He focused on the role of UGC in the development of nation and as a regulatory body too in the governance of Higher Education in India.
On the occasion, Prof J P S Joorel, Director, HRDC, highlighted the need, importance and role of such courses in the development and enhancement of their teaching skills.
The course coordinator, Prof Rahul Gupta gave a brief description of the course contents and the lectures to be delivered. He asked the participants to adhere with the norms of UGC in successful completion of the course.
Prof Pawan Kumar, Head, Dept. of Statistics, advised the participants to keep themselves updated with the latest in their field, to attain and deliver their best.
Ranjit Kalra, Assistant Director, presented the vote of thanks. Neha Sharma, Research Scholar of Deptt of Statistics, managed the dais.
