JAMMU/RAMBAN/udh-ampur, Mar 3: J&K police foiled major bovine smuggling bids in Ramban, Nagrota and Jhajjar Kotli and rescued 178 bovines from the clutches of smugglers.
In continuation to their special drive against the menace of bovine smuggling, police parties led by SHO Ramban Inspector Sunil Sharma, SHO Batote Inspector Niyaz Ahmed and SHO Chanderkote Inspector Nazir Ahmed under the supervision of Deputy SP Headquarters Ramban, Asgar Malik laid surprise nakas at Shan Palace (Ramban), Chanderkote and Nashri on Jammu-Srinagar NHW, respectively.
During checking at Shan Palace, 4 trucks bearing registration numbers JK02BN-5019, JK014-9461, JK13B-6825 and JK03D-1470 were intercepted and on search, 95 bovine animals were found loaded in the vehicles.
Similarly at Nashri and Chanderkote, 2 trucks bearing registration numbers JK18A-2250 and JK02D-2615 were intercepted and on checking 55 bovine animals were found loaded in the vehicles.
Six persons including drivers and helpers of the vehicles were also arrested. They were identified as Liaket Ali son of Mohd Latief of Kehri (Udhampur), Mohd Amin son of Mushtaq Ahmed of RS Pura, Parvaiz Ahmed son of Mohd Hanif of Udhampur, Mohd Jamil son of Ghulam Hussan of Kukarnag, Sartaj Ahmed Dar son of Abdul Majid of Anantnag and Anzer son of Riyaz Ahmed of Anantnag.
They were trying to smuggle these bovine animals towards Kashmir without seeking permission from the concerned authorities. In this regard, separate cases vide FIR numbers 30/20, 31/20, 32/20 and 33/20, 13/20 and 11/20 under Sections 188 RPC, 11PC Act stand registered against the accused persons at police station Ramban, Batote and Chanderkote, respectively and further investigation started.
Likewise, 28 bovines were also rescued from the clutches of smugglers by Nagrota and Jhajjar Kotli police. Police parties of police station Jhajjar Kotli and police post Sidhra headed by Inspector Rajesh Khajuria (SHO, Jhajjar Kotli) and Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq (Incharge, police post Sidhra) apprehended three vehicles bearing registration numbers JK02AC-7215, JK02AQ-3117 and JK02CH-7592 and rescued 28 bovine animals.
Two accused namely Mohinder Singh son of Uzaghar Singh of Indra Colony (Miran Sahib, Jammu) and Shabir Ahmed son of Mangu Khan of Verinag (Anantnag) were also arrested. In this connection, three separate cases vide FIR numbers 57/2020 and 111/2020 & 114/2020 have been registered at police stations Jhajjar Kotli and Nagrota, respectively.
The arrest and seizures were made under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Mohan Sharma and SP Rural Jammu Suram Singh.
Meanwhile, Udhampur Police foiled three separate attempts of bovine smuggling and rescued 186 numbers of cattle besides arresting 12 accused smugglers.
120 bovine animals were rescued at Chenani while 35 were rescued at Jakhani and 31 at Kud.
Giving details, SSP Udhampur, Rajiv Pandey, said that a police party led by SHO Chenani, Insp Paramjeet Singh, under the supervision of Rajinder Singh Katoch Adl SP Udhampur and Santokh Raj Deol SDPO Chenani, laid a naka at Motorshed, NHW Chenani and intercepted six trucks and two Tata Mobiles bearing registration numbers JK03E- 8828, JK03E -4428, JK03H -8799, JK03G 6412, JK02AF- 7029, JK02AE -0477, JK14F -7960, and JK 14D- 5519 . During search, 120 number of bovine animals were found loaded in these vehicles without any valid permission. All the bovine animals were rescued and the drivers of the vehicles were arrested on the spot.
The arrested accused were identified as Shaker Ahmed son of Ghulam Mohd Dar of Kulgam, Mudassir Ahmed of Shopian, Saeed Qasim son of Saeedullah Shah of Kulgam, Gul Mohd son of Habibullah of Anantnag, Imran Ahmed son of Mohd Ismail of Banihal, Sikander Hayat son of Mohd Bashir of Rajouri, Mohd Gafoor son of Babu Hussain of Bali Nallah and Kalin Mohd son of Kark Ali of Jaganoo, Udhampur. In this connection, cases were registered at Police station Chenani under relevant sections of law.
In another case, police party of Police Station Kud, led by Insp Vishal Sharma, laid naka near Tamatar Morh, Kud and intercepted two trucks bearing registration numbers JK02H -5232 and JK02AJ- 4071. Thirty one bovine animals were found illegally loaded in both the vehicles. All the bovine animals were rescued and drivers of both the trucks were also arrested on the spot. The arrested drivers were identified as Shabir Ahmed son of Abdul Rashid of Kupwara and Mohd Rafiq son of Ghulam Rasool of Reasi.
Similarity, a police party of Police Station Udhampur, led by SHO, Insp Vijay Singh Choudhary under the supervision Dr Rohit Chadgal DySP Hqrs Udhampur, laid naka at Jakhani,NHW Udhampur and intercepted two trucks bearing registration numbers JK02AR- 3895 and NL01AE- 2877. During search, 35 number of bovine animals were found loaded in these vehicles. All the bovine animals were rescued and driver namely Tariq Hussain son of Mohd Tayoub of Kheri, Udhampur and Mohd Aslam son of Dullah of Talwara, Reasi, were arrested on the spot.
