KATHUA, Sept 8: Excise department along with police department foiled two attempts of smuggling poppy husk (bhukki) by seizing 360 kg consignment from two vehicles at Toll Post, Lakhanpur, in past 24 hours.
“During routine checking, alert sleuths of Excise and police departments stopped two vehicles bearing registration number PB11AF-8307 and PB65AS-2755 for checking at Toll Post, Lakhanpur. The first vehicle was loaded with garlic while other was empty but on checking 60 kg of poppy husk was recovered from first vehicle and 300 kg was recovered from the second one”, said Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post, Ashish Kumar Gupta, while addressing a press conference.
He said both the vehicles along with the contraband had been seized and separate cases registered at police station Lakhanpur for further investigations.
The Deputy Excise Commissioner said that both the operation were conducted by separate teams of Excise Department comprising Excise Inspectors, Khalid Manhas, Sanjeev Sen, Dheeraj Kumar, Narender Gupta and Excise SIs, Sheikh Touseef, Kanwaljeet Shan, Vinay Kumar, Excise Guards, Javed Iqbal and Shakeel Ahmad under the command of Excise & Taxation Officer, Abhishek Abrol and SHO Lakhanpur, Sushil Sharma, under his and SSP Kathua, Sridhar Patil’s direct supervision.
