JAMMU, Oct 24: A group of 33 farmers and 2 officers representing different districts of Jammu division today left for participation in “Global Agri Connect-2013” being organized by National Skills Foundation of India (NSFI) in association with Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI) at its Campus New Delhi.
The farmers tour organized under Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) was flagged off by Director Agriculture Jammu, Ajay Khajuria, from Krishi Bhawan, Directorate of Agriculture.
The theme of Global Agri Connect-2013 is “Evolving Skill Dimensions: The Lever to Agriculture Growth”, while the major focus of the “Krishi Goshti” will be to import the technology involved in increasing the additional income of farmers through skill development and training activity.
About 40000 farmers from across the country and 900 experts/delegates from Govt. Organizations, Corporate sector and NGOs are expected to attend the event.
Director Agriculture Jammu, while interacting with the farmers said that the Participatory Tour which was being organized under ATMA has specific objectives of acquainting the farmers with Commercial Agriculture by transforming them into entrepreneurs, introducing of new technology and dissemination of information, commodity trading and high tech ware-housing.
He added that there was a great need to modernize the agriculture to make it more profitable and sustainable. He further disclosed that the farmers will also be acquainted with the practical demonstration on advanced crop cultivation in protected conditions, use of low cost silos for storage of produce, using spot market in commodity exchange, demonstration on utilization of crop insurance and market linkages. He advised them to participate whole heartedly in the programme to reap the benefit of the exposure visit.
Joint Director Agriculture Extension, Dr. S.S Jamwal also interacted with the farmers.
