300 kg poppy straw seized, 3 arrested

UDHAMPUR, Oct 28: The police recovered 300 kg of poppy straw at Jakheni naka on National Highway near Udhampur and 210 grams of charas from narcotic smuggler at Kud.
Official sources said that police party from Police Station Udhampur led Vijay Singh Choudhary, SHO under the supervision of Rajinder Singh Katoch Addl SP Udhampur apprehended two drug peddlers and seized 300 kg of poppy straw from their possession.
During a routine checking, police team stopped one truck bearing registration number JK03B/ 6992 for checking at Jakheni naka on Highway. During search of the vehicle, 300 kg of poppy straw was recovered from it. Its driver Gurjit Singh, son of Puran Singh of Mohali, Punjab alongwith Karanpreet Singh, son of Lakhvinder Singh of Jalandhar were arrested.
A case FIR No. 558/2020 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act was registered at PS Udhampur and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, another police team led by SHO Vikas Dogra during naka near Kud, intercepted a suspected person who was trying to hide himself from the police party for checking.
During search of the said person, 210 grms of charas was recovered from him. Identified as Sham Lal, son of Bhisham Dass of Mada village in Chenani, he was arrested on the spot. In this connection, a case FIR No. 33/2020 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act stands registered at PS Kud and further investigation is going on.
