Principal orders their training in GMC, SMGS
Docs in DRDO hospital hesitant
to operate Ventilators, BiPAPs

Not trained in COVID treatment, doctors deployed at DRDO Hospital at Bhagwati Nagar here are hesitant to operate Ventilators and BiPAP machines prompting the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu administration to depute them for training in Anesthesia, Medicines and Pediatrics Department.
“Presently only four to five patients have been admitted in 500-bedded DRDO hospital. As one of them, Suresh Sharma, turned sick, he was sent to the GMC Jammu for putting him on BiPAP machine as the doctors were unable to operate the machine though they were installed in the hospital in plenty,’’ sources said.
Due to delay in treatment at the DRDO hospital and time consumed in shifting him to the GMC Jammu, Sharma succumbed to the virus.
In view of this, the patients who don’t require Ventilator or BiPAP machines are being admitted in the DRDO hospital. As most of the patients need the support of such machines, only three to four patients are admitted in the DRDO hospital Bhagwati Nagar though it has 500 beds.
GMC Principal Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma told the Excelsior that she has ordered training of doctors posted in DRDO hospitals in the GMC and SMGS hospitals.
While doctors of Anesthesia will report to Dr Mukta Jitendra, Professor for training on Monday, the Physicians have been asked to report to Dr Fayaz Wani, Professor Medicines Department on Tuesday. The Pediatricians will see Dr Sanjeev Digra, Professor in the SMGS hospital on Wednesday, Dr Sharma said.
She added that Ventilators and BiPAP machines are in plenty at DRDO hospital and are operational too but the doctors deployed there were hesitant to operate the sensitive machines. In view of this, the doctors are being sent on training so that they are able to operate Ventilators and BiPAPs.
However, the doctors posted on emergency COVID duties at DRDO hospital have been exempted from the training.
