SRINAGAR, June 23: Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Bhagat today informed the House that Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has sanctioned three Tertiary Care Cancer Centres (TCCC) one each at at a cost of Rs.45.00 crore for District Hospital Kupwara, Kishtwar and Udhampur.
While replying to a Calling Attention Notice by Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, the Minister said that State had consented for 10 per cent State share would be meted out by the Department and the same was communicated to Government of India on May 12, 2014. The Department is in regular contact with Union Ministry on the issue.
Mr. Bhagat further said under the centrally sponsored scheme, “National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardio-Vascular Diseases and Stroke” (NPCDCS) a Day Care Chemo therapy ward, Cardio-Care Unit and Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) OPD is functional to treat the patients involved in various ailments like, Cancer, Diabetes, Cardio-Vascular Diseases and Stroke, in District hospital Handwara.
Cancer screening camps are being held under the scheme to give wide publicity of the programme and create awareness among the people about these diseases in rural areas, the Minister added.
