RAJOURI, Dec 20: A three storey  building was completely gutted in Thannamandi area of district Rajouri today.
Official sources said that mishap took place in the joint house of three brothers, Mohd Khursheed, Mohd Fareed  and Mohd Shabir-all sons of  Mohd Akhtar, residents of  Azmatabad village. The LPG cylinder in the kitchen was leaked  and it caught fire. Then it got exploded and the flames engulfed the whole building within minutes.

The family members rushed out for the safety but one boy Mohd Azhar got trapped inside.  He was later rescued by the people. He received multiple injuries and was rushed to Thannamandi hospital and then to District Hospital, Rajouri. It was around 11.20 am when the mishap took place. The locals rushed  to the spot and later Police party led by SDPO Iftikhar Choudhary, SHO and Tehsildar Shahid Iqbal also reached.
The people started pouring water on the burning building but they failed to contain fire. The Fire tender from Rajouri arrived at around 1.30 pm. The building had been completely gutted by then. The loss of property was being assessed but the family claimed that it would be around Rs 50 lakh. Entire property was gutted in the mishap.
The relatives of the victims, people of the area then held strong protest at Thannamandi against Fire Services authorities for arriving late. The people also raised slogans against District Administration and demanded that Fire  Station  be set up at Thannamnandi. They claimed that this Sub Division urgently needs Fire Station  because in most of the houses here more than 50% dry timber is used. Later, with the intervention of SDPO and Tehsildar the protest was suspended and the blocked road was restored.
Meanwhile, the District Administration has provided cash assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh to the fire victim families besides some ration, ten blankets, plastic sheets and other eatables.
