3 killed in Kathua mishap

KATHUA, May 9: Three labourers were killed and four others injured after a speedy truck hit the people sitting at a bus stop on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway in Seswan Morh, Chadwal of Kathua district early this morning.
Police said all of them were labourers from Chhattisgarh State working in the Kathua district and they were waiting to board a vehicle to leave for their daily routine work at Seswan Morh on the NH when a truck came and hit them.
Two labourers, identified as Mahabir and Manoj, were killed on the spot, while the third labourer identified as Rat Ram succumbed to his injuries on way to GMC Jammu. The four seriously injured were rushed to Sub Division Hospital (SDH), Hiranagar for treatment.
The injured, after the preliminary treatment, were referred to the GMC hospital in Jammu, a police official said.
The driver of the truck fled after the accident leaving the labourers in poll of blood. However the Kathua Police which instantly rushed to the spot and took cognisance of the case managed to arrest him and seize the vehicle within hours of incident.
The police with the help of CCTV cameras installed on the Highway identified the vehicle and after hard chase a police party led by Inspector Sarabjeet Singh, SHO PS, Rajbagh seized the truck and arrested the driver within hours of the incident.
The Police has registered a case FIR No 117/2018 U/S 279, 304A RPC at Police Station Rajbagh against the driver of the truck Malkeet Singh, S/o Kulvinder Singh Rajput of Batala Gurdaspur Punjab.
