UDHAMPUR, Mar 19: An attempt to evade restrictions on movement of public transport in view of coronavirus outbreak led to a fatal road mishap near Ramnagar, in which driver among three persons were killed and conductor got critically injured.
The accident took place last night around 12.30 pm when the minibus, bearing Registration number JK02BL-0193 was on its way from Basantgarh to Ramnagar and rolled down in deep gorge at village Keya. While negotiating a curve near Higher Secondary School Keya, driver lost control over the vehicle, which skidded off the road and rolled down around 500 meters deep in the gorge.

This minibus was carrying only two passengers, who along with the driver reportedly died on the spot while the conductor sustained critical injuries.
The deceased were identified as Ravinder Singh (33), son of Shankar Singh of Badhole Ramnagar, Sanjay Singh (31) son of Bhagat Ram of Basohli, district Kathua and driver Bishasher Singh (48), son of Shardha Ram of Salal, Reasi.
Along with locals, SDM Ramnagar Naresh Kumar and SHO Ramnagar Jaswinder Singh rushed to the accident spot and shifted the injured conductor as well as dead persons to Ramnagar Sub District Hospital. The injured conductor, namely Rakesh Kumar (25), son of Ashok Kumar of Bassi Marta, Ramnagar, was later referred to GMC Hospital Jammu in view of his serious condition.
According to the reports, the ill-fated minibus took off from Basantgarh Bus Stand around 10 pm last night and proceeded towards Ramnagar in the late night because of restrictions imposed on movement of public transport in Udhampur district by the District Magistrate in view of coronavirus outbreak.
Meanwhile, another road accident claimed life of driver of a canter when his vehicle collided head on with an Army vehicle near Chenani-Nashri tunnel, this evening around 6 PM.
The canter, bearing Registration Number PB02D-7658, was on its way towards Ramban when it collided with the Army LS vehicle coming from opposite side. Driver of the canter, identified as Love Singh, son of Gurmit Singh of Haj Nallah, Amritsar Punjab, was critically wounded in the collision and he succumbed to his injuries at Sub District Hospital Chenani.
