KATHUA, June 17: Three persons were killed while six others seriously injured when a Tata Sumo rolled down into deep gorge on Baggan-Katli road in tehsil Billawar of Kathua district today after the driver of the vehicle lost control on steering.
Three persons died on spot, while six were seriously injured. The dead were identified as Rasa Singh, 50, son of Kashmir Chand, Janti Begum wife of Hassan Din and Sabo Begum, wife of Rusla all residents of Malhar , Billawar.
The Tata Sumo bearing Registration Number HP 83/8180 was on its way to Billawar. Its driver identified as Mohammed Din, son of Abdul Rahim of Malhar fled from the spot after the accident. Soon after the accident the local people rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. They rescued six serious injured persons and shifted them to Sub District Hospital, Billawar.
A police team from Police Station, Billawar also rushed to the spot to hold investigation in to the matter.
All the six seriously injured persons were shifted to Billawar Hospital. After first aid, one of the seriously injured person was shifted to Medical College Kathua. The injured were identified as Arif son of Shang Mohammed, Bashir Ahmed , son of Ghulam Mohammed, Shang Mohammed, son of unknown, Sarfaraz, son of Abdul Rashid of Doda, Shamli Begum, wife of Bashir Ahmed of Malhar and Abida daughter of Abdul Rashid of Udhampur.
Police have launched a manhunt for the driver of Sumo and people of the area have also demanded his immediate arrest for his negligence.
BDC chairperson Baggan, Nisha Thakur has expressed her grave concern over the loss of three precious lives in the accident and demanded immediate compensation for the bereaved families as well as for injured for their treatment.
