3 of family among 7 killed, 5 injured in mishap

SRINAGAR, Jan 12: In a tragic accident on Srinagar-Baramulla national highway, seven persons including three members of a family were killed and five others were injured when a speedy taxi collided with a load carrier near Tarzoo in Sopore area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district this morning.
DIG Traffic, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, told Excelsior that the accident occurred due to negligent and rash driving by the Tata Sumo driver.
Police said that a Tata Sumo bearing registration number JKO9A/2565 on way from Kupwara to Srinagar collided with a Tata Mobile-407 vehicle bearing registration number JKO1W/1652 near Ringi, Tarzoo leading to the death of 7 persons.
Five persons died on the spot and locals, police and 52 RR who were near the accident site rushed to the spot and 7 injured were shifted to the Sub-District Hospital Pattan for treatment. Later, they were shifted to SKIMS, Soura, SMHS and JVC hospitals in Srinagar for treatment. Two of them later succumbed to injuries at SKIMS Soura and condition of other five is stated to be critical.
The dead have been identified as Mohammad Shafi Malik son of Ghulam Ahmad, Naza daughter of Mohammad Shafi Malik residents of Babloosa Trehgam, Parveiz Ahmad Malik son of Bashir Ahmad, Abdul Majeed Dar son of Muzaffar Ahmad Dar residents of Dolipora Trehgam, Dilshad Ahmad Peer son of Ali Mohammad resident of Kralpora Trehgam, Sara daughter of Abdul Samad Malik resident of Shimnag and Waseem Ahmad Malik son of Shabir Ahmad resident of Trehgam.
Five injured have been identified as Ajaz Ahmad resident of Kupwara, Farooq Ahmad Najar resident of Shumnar, Trehgam, Arfat Hussain resident of Trehgam Kupwara, Mohammad Halaf and Mohammad Saleem Akhter residents of Kolkata West Bengal.
Three family members of Mohammad Ashraf Malik, Class-IV employee of Revenue Department, including his wife and mother have died in the mishap.
Sopore police have registered a case (FIR vide number 9/2015 under sections 279 and 337 and are investigating the matter.
Governor NN Vohra, has expressed grief over the loss of precious human lives in the accident. He has conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
The Governor, who is seriously concerned about the recurring fatal accidents, has directed that an urgent meeting of the Road Safety Council should be held in which he shall review the implementation status of various measures which were intended to improve road safety, a statement issued from Rajbhawan said.
Meanwhile, in another accident, a tipper bearing registration number JK05B/1356 hit a 9 year old boy Adnan Ahmad Sheikh son of Sher Ali resident of Abi Guzar, Srinagar at Friends Colony Shalimar, in the jurisdiction of Police Station Harwan, resulting in his on spot death. Srinagar Police has registered a case in this regard.
Meanwhile, National Conference working president Omar Abdullah has also expressed grief and sorrow over the tragic accident in Baramulla.
“I express my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and pray for the recovery of those who have been injured”, he said.
