JAMMU, Feb 23: The valedictory function of the World Yoga Conference on “Global Peace and Harmony thorough Holistic approach of Yoga and Meditation” was organized by The Yoga Centre, University of Jammu at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Spiritual Growth Centre, Katra today.
The chief guest of the function was Rahul Sharma, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Katra. S.M. Sahni, Director, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Spiritual Growth centre Katra, presided over the function .
Dr. D.L. Choudhary, Director, The Yoga Centre, University of Jammu read out the declaration of the Conference. He highlighted that Yoga should be spread at National and International level and India should pursue UNO to adopt yoga education as a part of UNESCO. He also stated that Yoga and Meditation should be introduced at School, College and University level and be made as a part of the curriculum in academic studies at all levels of elementary, secondary and higher education.
The report of three day World Yoga Conference was presented by Sita Anand. She stated that over 300 delegates from India and abroad participated in the conference and about 149 paper presentations took place in over 15 parallel sessions which was highest number in any conference.
The three day event was unique in many aspects. The delegates from all over India and also from Thialand, Myanmar, Iran, Canada and USA participated. The delegates were from various fields viz, undergraduate and post graduate students, doctors, philosophers, researchers, scientists, psychologists, advocates and senior police officers etc.
While expressing views about the conference Sudhir Bhatnagar, Chief Executive officer, SARD, New Delhi said that there is need to tap the energy of youth in border areas and youth should be trained to disseminate message of peace, brotherhood and partnership.
Phramaha Thanarat Sa-Ard-Lan from Thailand and Maryam Hassani from Iran both research scholars of Yoga said that it has been a great opportunity to participate in this Conference.
Dr. Shankar Choudhary, former Director from UNESCO, stated that Yoga should be introduced in health care and it should support the four pillars of education and apart from introducing it in the curriculum for formal education, it should be taught to out of school children through non-formal education.
Lee Helina Majweski, Yoga Scholar from Canada said “we need to live yoga for peace and harmony and transformation as human beings and to obtain peace within and in the world”.
Dr B.T.C Murthy , Director National Academy of Naturopathy & Yoga, Bangalore, said, “laughter is very relaxing and also improves blood circulation.” He involved the audience in the laughing session where he had conducted deep breathing, laughing, swinging their arms and relaxing, which was enjoyed by all.
S.M.Sahni in his presidential address praised and congratulated the Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. M.P.S Ishar and Dr. D. L. Choudhary and his organizing team for the grand success of the conference.
Rahul Sharma, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Katra in his address explained the essence of yoga and the role of consciousness by doing yogic practices.
Rakhee Maini Wazir presented the vote of thanks and the proceedings of the Valedictory function were conducted by S.K. Jain, Patron, Bharatiya Yog Sansthan, Jammu.
